Chrissa is excited about her first day at Edgewater Elementary because it’s one of her favorite days of the year: Valentine’s Day! She has carefully crafted 23 cards, one for each of her new classmates, in hopes of finding friendship in her new school.
Show your own friends and family that you’re caring—and creative! Give them handmade cards from the heart using these instructions.
Fold cardstock in half lengthwise. This will be the inside of your card. Use the side of a pencil to smooth the folded edge.
Lay the pencil down across the center of the fold. Use the other pencil to trace a line about 1 inch long on either side.
Repeat step 2 on either side of the center marks, centering the pencil each time. Cut along pencil lines.
Open the card and fold strips the opposite way, pulling them toward you.
Fold the sheet of scrapbook or colored paper in half. Apply glue to the back of the inside card and attach it to the outside card.
Print the template featuring patterns, flowers, and shapes. Choose flowers or hearts to glue to the pop-up strips. Apply patterns and other elements to the outside of your card.
Customize your cards using colored markers, glitter, sequins, buttons, and more.
Rub glue on
heart-shaped templates.
Sprinkle glitter on top of the glue; let dry.
Cut out heart shapes and glue to pop-up strips.
On a plain piece of paper, draw a heart shape in the center of a larger heart.
Choose two different watercolor paint colors.
Paint the inside heart shape one color; let dry.
Paint the outside heart shape another color; let dry.
