After the mean girls in Chrissa’s class play a cruel trick on Chrissa’s friend Gwen, Chrissa uses her creativity to help Gwen get through the bad situation. She and her friends make and decorate headbands that they wear to school to show Gwen that they support her—and to show everyone else that they stand up for others. Like Chrissa, you and your friends can make headbands that express your creativity and friendship.

Step-by-step instructions
Purchase wide stretchy fabric headbands, or buy two- to three-inch-wide grosgrain or satin ribbon in various colors, each piece 36 inches long.
For each headband you will need:

1. If you are making the headbands from ribbon, give each person a piece.
2. Paint or draw on the headband with the fabric paints or markers, following the directions on the paint tubes. You can write words like “friendship,” “kindness,” or “love,” or you can make your headband abstract and purely decorative.
3. Glue or sew on things such as rhinestones, ribbons, sequins, or buttons. Your headband can match or complement those of your friends.
4. Let the paint and glue dry before wearing the headbands.
